Who We Are

Compassion for Migrant Children (CMC) is a collaborative effort to provide a structured framework within which organizations, individuals, and companies can express their care for children of migrant workers. Its uniqueness lies in the strength that multiple mature humanitarian partners bring to the table. CMC also engages the Chinese government and local officials for greater and longer lasting impact.

We and our members think reaching out to one of the most disadvantaged groups in Beijing...the children of the millions of migrant workers that flock to Beijing...is not too terrible of an idea. In fact, we even grow to like it! Too often the long-term sacrifices the migrant family makes creates an environment for the children that is without nurture. CMC is bringing organizations, individuals, and companies together to stand in the gap for these valuable members of the Beijing community.

CMC strategically builds community centers in the heart of migrant neighborhoods. Through and around these centers, we offer programs for migrant children and their family. The Life-Vocational Skills Training Program for older migrant youth addresses gaps in young migrant’s access to the labor market by integrating them into fair and sustainable employment. The After School Program and Teacher Training programs address gaps in education which are not being met.

Compassion for Migrant Children seeks to play a role in providing social and educational opportunities to many of these children while weaving an underlying web of hope that they so desperately need. Since its inception, CMC has been hard at work building bridges between itself and non-profits and also between non-profits and the migrant community. CMC partners with NGOs, community leaders, and the government to leverage resources and enable us to achieve our vision.
